This offering of prehistoric American art and artifacts has been carefully selected over the last 9 months. We gratefully acknowledge and thank our friend, the late Dave Scott, for initially suggesting and encouraging us to assemble a collection of genuine, quality artifacts for public auction – something he thought important and much needed by the collecting community in this era of modern reproductions flooding both the private and public markets. We would also like to thank our valued consignors who were most receptive to and supportive of this concept. Their confidence and enthusiasm is much appreciated.
Having over 100 years of combined artifact collecting experience, we are confident the items offered in this sale are as represented and trust that our fellow collectors will be pleased. This sale provides an excellent opportunity to acquire well documented pieces which, in many cases, have not been on the open market for more than 40 years.
Every effort has been made to accurately describe any restoration or breakage, however, nicks, scratches, scuffs, etc. have not been noted. More than ample opportunity will be offered to examine all lots either online or in person prior to the auction and we will be happy to answer any questions. All sales will be final.
Regarding C.O.A.’s, it has been our observation that many are only costly, unwarranted opinions provided mostly for inexperienced, novice collectors. We do not accept, recognize or issue C.O.A.’s and you will find none accompanying any lots. The artifacts offered herein will stand on their own merit. Ultimately, it is up to the buyer, to be the final judge regarding authenticity.
Among items offered is perhaps the finest double notched slate butterfly ever offered at auction, 11 birdstones, (5 in Townsend’s BIRDSTONES OF THE NORTH AMERICAN INDIAN) one of which was Cameron Parks’ favorite slate birdstone featured on his Christmas cards, a rare and fine complete notched ovate, a superb knobbed lunate, a wide variety of gorgets and pendants including a beautiful porphyry gorget and the longest hardstone pendant known plus a quality selection of Ohio flint just to name a few.
There are approximately 70+ lots from the collections of the late Cameron Parks “The Slate King” and the late Richard Bourn which will include copies of original catalog entries and tracings when available. The Cameron Parks pieces in this auction will be designated with a red “P” following the lot number. Other old time collections represented include Dr. R. Bunch, D. Boudeman, J.C. Caldwell, Dr. S. Copeland, G. Dilley, E. Hirzel, Dr. G. Meuser, W. Nelson, F. Pike, B.W. Stephens, E. Townsend Jr., H.C. Wachtel, A.T. Wehrle, Dr. T.H. Young and others.
This auction will offer something for everyone, from beginner to the most advanced collector. We thank you for your past business and look forward to seeing you in April. You will not be disappointed!
